Clown Playing Cards

Clown Playing Cards
Summary:
I wanted to focus on how to improve upon my skills and use that to make a deck of cards. The mission was to be able to make 52 original cards that could either be based on a traditional deck or your own style of playing cards. Creating Joker cards was an option so that is why it is opted from my deck. The focus for the cards was to be able to have the cards be uniformed with the subject, composition, and as well as the original concept.

Theme/Concept:
My theme for these playing cards was clowns. I wanted it to aim for a unique concept and out of all my designs, clowns was the one that stood out to me the most. I figured that when creating my Jacks,Queens,Kings, and Aces that each one had to be its own character that is stylized towards their names. My personal favorite is my Jack because you are able to turn the card upside down and still be able to see a face. The color aspect to the cards also adds a unique feature because the vibrancy each card has makes it a unique clown. I was aiming for wacky, goofy, and vibrant colors.

Technique:
A technique I used for my cards was to pick a color and don't second guess it. I think this helped me alot because I tend to rethink how I want something to look color wise, but I knew I did not need that to be a main factor on why it would take me so long to complete a card. I had to think smart and my way was to draw out my design, duplicate the image, and pick and dot color I wanted for each one. That way when I complete a card I won't waste time trying to decide on what next color I should use.

Improvement:
After WIP, I had to go back on my first sets and fix minor coloring issues and add more detailing to some of the cards. I decided it was best to follow the neon and vibrant color wave for my cards because I originally was going for the idea of just making them look different, but I did not pay attention to it being cohesive. I also worked on making a new design for my card box because the first was not working. Along with that, I managed to figure out another design for the back of my card because the simple clown nose also was not working the best.

What I Learnt:
When creating and finalizing my cards, it was such a hard task to color and make each one different in its own ways. As I completed my deck of cards, I learned that seeing the final result is always worth the time and effort spent on creating it. I also learned more about being able to figure out the right dpi and what works best for an image that is going to be scaled down; this is in regards to my card box. I feel like the part I loved the most was just being able to see my creation come to life; that means alot to an artist.
